Turn 29.0: The Inner Chamber

 Sent: 4/13/99

"Phew!" Crayne says wiping away some sweat from his brow, "That was a little too close for my liking!" Crayne then turns to his friends and says, "I thank you all for your assistance in taking out the foe that came upon me!" he then turns to Storm, "Friend I must apologise for my mistake. There is little else I can do at the moment but hope that I will make up for my actions in the future! You are a good friend and I would be pleased if you were to stay that way!"

Storm shakes his head at Crayne and lightly waves him off. "Arr, I be bein' stupid. Runnin' in the dark..."

Crayne then moves a little away taking his lightstone from his belt and holding it up in order to get a better look of the chamber that the group is in. At the same time murmuring to himself, "Why have these undead been placed here? Is there something these undead were guarding?"

Crayne shakes his head, and thinks aloud, "I hope these weren't some of the previous miners!"

Storm stands breathing hard. His brow is strained, he looks visibly quite angry. He starts mumbling under his breath, and at one point lets out a very loud, rather painful-sounding cough. "Stupid undead bastard...fought stupid...bastards..." Through his mumbling at one point he raises his voice from mid-mumble and announces "Arrr...I took me a bigger beatin' then me shoulda...me's appologize for me stupid fightin'." He then immediately goes back to his mumbling.

As usual, he stands off to the side while he waits for the descisions that involve thinking are made. This time, however, he does not fidget, and simply stands rigid with his head tilted down and his mumbling progressing. If it weren't so dimly lit, one might later have noticed a slight bit of blood on his palm where his crusty finger nails had dug into his hand while clenching his fist tightly in anger.

Before the group moves on, Edryd backs away from the aftermath of the battle. Even with all his training and his being raised at the temple, he wasn't prepared for the shock of his first encounter with the undead. He finds a spot still within the torchlight, but away from the others and from any doorways or other openings. He then kneels and places his sword point down, the hilt in his hands, which are folded in prayer. The tears come, and he prays through the Litany of Peace and the Ritual of Final Rest for the deceased represented by the debris on the cavern floor.

Edryd then rises from his prayers and rejoins the group, finding Canter, Guilliam, and Cy tending to their wounds and kicking aside smelly undead remains. "My friend," he addresses Crayne, "I can offer you a little healing, if you'd like."

Storm then chimes in, "Mates, I be thinkin' it not be good for me t'be takin' so much damage in these battles...but I be a fighter 'till the end."

Cyveiliog clears his throat, his voice sounding a bit scratchy after the battle. "We should put out that--"

He is interrupted by Guilliam's loud yelp. Standing over the wooden table, close to the burning hay (or what's left of it), be cried "Oh My!!" He reaches into the fire once, pulling his hand away from the heat. Then turning to Storm, close by, he yanks a dagger from the dwarf's belt, and pokes at something on the table. Pulling it out of the flames and blowing on it, to put it out, the rest of the party can see it is a piece of paper.

"I think I have here something we might be interested in!" Guilliam says with a wide smile. "Anyone wanna take a peek?" Upon closer inspection, the others see his is holding up a crude map of sorts, slightly charred at the edges.

"Can anyone read that?" Crayne asks skeptically.

1. Does Crayne accept Edryd's offer to lay on hands?

2. You can view the map image here: Link to Map of Mine

3. This past turn took forever to get some responses. It is my hope that we can pick up the pace again a little...

4. WHAT NOW? Do you explore one of the shafts?
